Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max and Pura 90s Pro: Global Launch with 200MP Tele Cameras (2026)

Huawei's latest smartphone offerings, the Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max, are set to make a global impact, marking a significant shift from the company's previous strategies. The introduction of these models signifies a strategic move towards a more diverse and inclusive market, offering a range of features that cater to a wide audience.

One of the standout features of the Pura 90s Pro Max is its 200MP telephoto camera, a first in the industry. This camera boasts a 1/1.28" sensor with an f/2.6 lens and 4x optical zoom, delivering exceptional image quality and a unique telephoto experience. The absence of switchable lenses, as seen in the Pura 80 Ultra, simplifies the camera system, making it more reliable and user-friendly. Huawei's commitment to yellow sub-pixels over green, a long-standing preference, is evident in this model's sensor.

The main camera on both models is equipped with a 50MP 1/1.28" RYYB sensor, a significant upgrade from the 1"-type sensor of the previous year's models. This sensor, configured with LOFIC technology, offers a wider dynamic range, enhancing image quality and detail. The OIS-enabled lens with an adjustable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0 further contributes to the camera's versatility.

The ultra-wide camera on the Pro Max is a 40MP unit with a RYYB sensor and an f/2.2 lens, while the Pro model features a 12.5MP ultra-wide camera. These specifications showcase Huawei's attention to detail and commitment to providing a comprehensive camera experience.

In terms of display, the Pro model boasts a 6.6" LTPO panel with a 1-120Hz refresh rate and 1,256 x 2,760px resolution, protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass. The Pro Max, on the other hand, offers a larger 6.9" display with a 1-120Hz refresh rate and 1,308 x 2,880px resolution, also featuring Kunlun Glass. Both displays are designed to reduce reflections and increase scratch and drop resistance.

Under the hood, the phones are powered by the Kirin 9030S, a new chip from HiSilicon, marking a departure from the Kirin 9020 used in the previous generation. This upgrade signifies Huawei's commitment to innovation and performance.

Connectivity-wise, the phones support 5G and eSIM, a significant improvement over previous global Huawei models. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 (ax) on 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and Bluetooth 5. The phones are configured with 12GB of RAM and offer 256GB or 512GB of storage, running HarmonyOS.

Battery life is a shared feature, with both models equipped with 6,000mAh batteries. However, EU regulations result in a lower capacity of 5,270mAh for units sold in the Union. The Pro Max model offers faster charging, with 100W wired and 80W wireless, compared to the Pro model's 66W and 50W.

The design of the phones is another notable aspect, with Huawei paying attention to detail. The metal frames are painted to match the colorful gradients of the rear panels, adding a pop of color to the more vibrant options like Orange Ocean and Blush Gold. The phones are rated IP68 for submersion and IP69 for water jet resistance.

In terms of weight and thickness, the Pro Max model is heavier at 230g and thinner at 8.1mm, while the Pro model weighs 213g and measures 8.2mm thick. These specifications contribute to a balanced and comfortable user experience.

The launch details for the Huawei Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max are yet to be announced, but the anticipation is palpable. The introduction of these models represents a significant step in Huawei's global strategy, offering a range of features that cater to diverse consumer needs and preferences.
